Adoption Policy and Fees

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting from ARRI. Our goal is to find the best possible match between each pet and an adopting home. To ensure the placement of a pet into the proper home environment, potential adopters are interviewed and asked to complete an Adoption Questionnaire. Your questionnaire must be approved before adopting a pet.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be at least 21 years of age to adopt an animal.
  • If an applicant rents or leases their house or apartment, we require written or verbal approval from the landlord before adopting a pet. Homeowners require proof of home ownership.
  • Proof that current/previous pets are/were up-to-date on vaccinations and are/were spayed and/or neutered (unless there was a medical issue prohibiting this)
  • If there is a current dog in the household, a meet and greet with the shelter dog must be scheduled.

REFUNDABLE SPAY/NEUTER DEPOSIT: As required by RI law, if a pet is not already altered by the time of adoption, an adopter is required to leave a refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. Felines require a $50 deposit and canines require a $100 deposit. The vouchers provided to you (see above) may be redeemed at the Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic in Warwick or at South Bay Veterinary Clinic in Narragansett, or you may have your pet spayed or neutered at your regular veterinarian. Once a pet has been spayed or neutered, ARRI will refund the deposit to the adopter.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEES?

Adoption fees help cover the medical care of our pets while they wait for their new homes, as well as the costs of food, transportation and training. These fees also help provide care for ARRI’s other pets who may have medical bills that are much greater than any adoption fee. Finally, adoption fees also serve as a donation to help support ARRI’s overall operations, allowing us to continue our efforts to rescue and rehome pets.

Fees Include:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • FIV and feline leukemia testing (cats only)
  • Heartworm test and preventative (dogs only)
  • Microchipping
  • De-Worming
  • Flea Treatment
  • Distemper vaccination and booster (if age appropriate)
  • Bordetella vaccination (dogs only)
  • Option to speak to our on-call behavior specialist, who can assist with any behavior issues your pet may be experiencing

***Please note that ARRI reserves the right to decline an adoption. **
